| Self running promotional demos | |
| Posted by: turbogaming on 2013-11-27 22:54:13 I use to love picking up copies of self running demos back in the mac + days. A single floppy would contain a full blown demonstration of software plus a little powerpoint style presentation (through director etc). Those days are long gone but I yearn to get a copy of the demos. I recall Aldus Pagemaker, Adobe Illustrator and even color Macromind demos. I even made a copy at one point of the demo hypercard stack for the Outbound notebooks. Where can these gems be picked up? | |
| Posted by: LCGuy on 2013-11-29 14:53:23 I have a CD that was a part of the CD bundle that came with the Apple CD 300 back in the day, "Business Productivity", which is loaded with software demos and presentations on software titles from back in the day. There's even a presentation from Daystar Digital, on their products. As much as I'd like to share it...I wonder what the legalities would be of doing so? While demo software was obviously distributed for free back in the day (as it is today)...I'm guessing that distributing the entire disc image might be a bit of a grey area? | |
| Posted by: TheIanMan85 on 2013-11-29 21:45:56 I was just playing with the PowerBook 1400 series demo the other day when I pulled out the 1400c to relive memories of Kid Pix with some friends. 😱) I had forgotten the old in-store style demo was still on it! My first Mac, a Performa 550, was a in-store demo unit at a local Wal-Mart; and came with the demo as well. Since it was literally the exact same one I had played with and drooled over in the store, it was fun to run the demo again seeing it on my own desk. 😎 | |

I highly recommend making an image of the Apple CD 300 disc for preservation purposes, I can't imagine copyrights getting in the way of a demo disc, especially in this day and age. There are simply too many acquisitions and technology changes in the personal computing industry. There is an archive location which contains loads of old mac software CDs at https://archive.org/details/software If you prefer to share with the people here, you could simply post to Skydrive or rapidshare. | |
