LCII Restoration (Corrosion/case)
Posted by: Scott Baret on 2013-11-15 21:25:17
Two weeks ago, I bought an LCII which appeared to have a power supply issue. I opened up the Mac today and found my worst nightmare to be true. There was massive corrosion in the case from a leaking battery (not sure if it was one of the notorious Maxells or not due to the heaviness of the corrosion).

I do have another LCII board, so the replacement isn't going to be a big deal. (The IIe card in this machine looks OK, so hopefully if there's any damage it's minor). However, my question relates to the case. What is the best way to salvage this case, since it's in great cosmetic shape on the outside?

My thought was to sand away the corrosion, but the layer of metal is very thin. Any thoughts on this process would be appreciated. Also, if anyone wants a corroded LCII board for whatever reason, I may be willing to part with it.

Should be able to wire wheel or sand that corrosion off.. it might take a little bit of work though.

You could send me both boards and the psu and i could keep the bad one and re-cap the good one and psu.

for a super low price.

I have an air wire wheel that i know will take that rust out. maybe you would like to send me the whole machine?
