LEM's Compleat Guide to the WallStreet PowerBook G3 says the Wallstreet Series I has ATI RageII video and the Series II has ATI Rage-Pro.

Has anyone got linkage to a suitable USB/FW PC Card for Beater2 the Wallstreet/333?
To use my USB KVM, I'm being forced to try Illustrator_10 again on Beater3, the Pismo/500 under . . . shudder . . . 10.4.11 > 🙁

Wallstreets topped out at 292/83FSB and 300/66FSB (series 1 and 2) so you have a 333mhz Lombard. Pretty sure there are no 333 upgrades for a Wallstreet unless you hack the multiplier or something like that. I think there was a G4 upgrade but that might be for the Pismo.

It can't be a Lombard because it has ADB and lacks USB, hence my request for info on USB/FW cards for it.

This is an interesting question. Could you bring up the apple system profiler and look? Do you run OS 9 and X on it? Do they both report 333? I have seen profilers that are not correct a lot like tech tool being incorrect. Also so botched/warez OS betas back in the day still linger on hard drives and like my Lombard that reported only 33 MHz when it was fast as all get out was funny. The guy somehow with a PC formatted the drive and put OS 9 on it. I will say I was impressed as it was really just blind luck as he could not repeat it for me.

It's 10.4.11 so my usual gang of utilities won't run on it. I've got TechTool Pro 3.0.6, but I'm not sure on it's up to booting the Pismo, but I can give that a try after i find the CD.
Curiously, the TechTool Pro Zip-Loc has two 3.0 manuals in it? :?:
I was thinking I needed 9.2.2 to boot the Pismo, but that was just the recommended system. I've got my 0S9 CD to try the System Profiler on that.
Unfortunately, the one CD I have handy for the Pismo is borked, gotta find the DVD too. :/

Grrrrrrrrrr! 😛 I guess I need to find my Pismo DVD a/o the rest of the stack of Pismo CD-ROM drives. I hooked up the USB HP DVD writer f0r the NetBooks to the Pismo, but it insists on booting into that crappy OSX stuff on its HDD and not off the OS9 CD or the 9.1 /9.2.2 Systems on the TechTool Pro 3.0.6 CD on restart. For some reason it won't restart from the button in the Startup Disk setting box when either CD is selected. Is an Apple ROM'd Optical a requirement?
I've found my USB2/FW IDE HDD enclosure, is there any reason the Pismo wouldn't boot off one of either of those interfaces on am external drive?

Neat trick, but it just knocks on the CD's door after what appears to be an interminable wristwatch and then goes right back to booting from X on its HDD. I assume it's supposed to page thru the available options as you click the arrow?

Yup. It should show ALL bootable volumes it finds. Hard drives, firewire devices, optical discs. Not sure if it show network boot options but holding down N should boot from a netboot server,.
So, if it isn't in the boot picker, it doesn't see it as bootable.

I'll pull one of the other drives out of the QS'02 to stick into the external case and see where that gets me. Bright side, I won't have to use this thing under X after all, that way, my apps and utilities all will be happy as a clam as will I with the Pismo on the USB KVM pushing 1600 x 1200 @ 16bit on the main workstation!
Pismo playtime aside, what might it mean if every every utility I try tells me the PDF is PDFaster at 333MHz?

Well, I installed Gauge Pro on the uppity PDQ and the result is are:
PowerPC (G3)
333.5MHz
66.7MHz /system bus
64k L1 Cache at 333.5MHz
1MB L2 Cache at 133.4MHz
Gotta try TattleTech, this thing still thinks it's faster than PDQ :?:

With three of 5 precincts reporting it's unanimous:
Apple System Profiler under 9.2, GaugePro v1.1 and TattleTech 2.84 under 9.2.2 from the TechTool Pro CD all came in with almost identical results:
333MHz on a 66.7MHz bus with no info available on the machine's serial number.
When I'm awake again, I'll see if doing the RTFM thing will help me coax a vote out of TechTool Pro 3.0.6. The only other thing I can think of to try is Metronome from Sonnet, maybe it will work as a general utility as opposed to only working with their Crescendo Accelerators.
Anyone have another suggestion for a testing utility? At this point, for whatever reason, I think this thing really is PDQuicker. ;D

It is at this point you pop off the heatsink, unscrew the heat spreader, then clean off the thermal compound to look at the markings on the CPU. You would also check the multiplier settings at this point. A WS/PDQ overclocking page should be pretty clear on the multiplier setting.
Was it the PDQ or Lombard that unscrewed? I forget. IIRC on one the heat spreader unscrewed and on the other it just popped out but I do not remember any further details.
I might be mixing this up with a different model completely.
Anyway, remember to apply fresh thermal compound to replace whatever was removed and do not mangle the thermal pad on the heatsink.

That or be happy with it, looking a gift horse in the chip seems like a lot of work, maybe when my week off before Thanksgiving rolls around. Until then I'll play with it a bit, watch the temperature profile, study the service source and look for a clock chipping page.
In the meantime I'll upgrade the Pismo from 10.4.11 to 9.2.2. [😀] ]'> Set up on the main workstation's USB KVM, The Pismo's 1600 x 1200 @16bit coutput is plenty good enough for Illustrator work and the Beige is good enough for occasionally tweaking pics. I can also knock the Pismo's resolution down to 800 x 600 @24bit or work on the built in LCD.

The Lombard has a bronze keyboard, USB, and white light up apple logo, while Wallstreets don't. Its also thinner and lighter. The one nice thing if you have old Macs around is the Wallstreet is the last Old World laptop and sports full ADB, serial, and floppy options. The Lombard for some reason still retained SCSI, the only New World machine to come with it built in.
