So I am relatively new to the board, mostly because my long standing Apple/Mac interest has exploded into a recent rash of acquiring vintage macs (much to my wife's concern). Specifically, I have recently acquired a Macintosh Portable and a Powerbook 180. In trying to get the Macintosh Portable working, I have come to learn a lot about what can ail old electronics (capacitors leaking, etc.)
This got me thinking about my dear Macintosh Plus I have had for a few years. It is in great cosmetic shape and works well. I don't turn it on often because, well, I have no software beyond a systems utility disk. It just sits on my desk looking pretty. I have never even opened the thing.
I am curious if there are any major issues I should be concerned about and/or if there is any "preventative maintenance" I should be doing on it.
Also, does anyone have copies of some old software/games I can buy so I can show my wife the thing is more than a paperweight?!
Thanks!
Kendall

| Posted by: Apache Thunder on 2015-10-27 15:29:21 Not sure about the motherboard, but I've heard the analog boards are getting flaky in those Plus and older machines. Analog board may need to be recapped. May save you the trouble when it inevitably does get sick with something. 😉
| Posted by: Paralel on 2015-10-27 16:42:09 The analog boards can develop issues with the solder joints due to heating/cooling cycles as a result of use, if I'm not mistaken. You can fix that by reflowing the busted solder joints.
Other than that I don't think they have any issues.
