Problem with a PowerBook Duo 280c
Posted by: Dandu on 2015-10-22 05:45:32
Hi,

I have a problem : i have recupered a PowerBook 280C and a Duo Dock II and i have a problem.

The first time i power up the PowerBook, it works, but after ~5 minutes, the PowerBook shut off with no reason. And after that, i can't boot the PowerBook.

When i press the power button, the LED on the display blink a little, but i have nothing else : no "bong", nothing on the display, no hard drive spin up.

I have try to place the PowerBook into the Duo Dock, and i have the same problem : when i press the button on the dock, the LED blink one time, and i have no reaction. And i can't eject the PowerBook with the button on the dock, only with manual ejection.

Can you help me ?

Is there a battery in the PowerBook?

I have tested with and without the battery and no difference.

I have 3 280 motherboards all washed and recapped as well as a 270c.  I will tell you my 270 will not boot by itself but will boot in the dock.  all the 280 won't even power on.  Its the strangest thing I have seen to date, as clean as the boards are, for them not to work is stranger than the 3400c.  At least pram battery leakage made sense in the 3400.

Sounds like the power supply on the dock is weak and/or the ejection motor is seized.

... and in the Kanga. The worst place for pram batteries ever. 🙁
