Powerbook 100 Modification?
Posted by: techknight on 2013-07-23 19:46:17
I have a powerbook 100 from a recent acquisition. I noticed that the serial number fell inside some kind of a recall modification apple did.

Anyone happen to know of the modification they had done? supposedly they had issues with it burning a hole through the bottom of the mainboard and case.

I don't know about the 1XX series but my 1400 fried through the plastic and was DOA when I got it. Nasty burn marks. Replaced the power management chip at that location, put a heavier plastic under and good to go.

According to this, the modified units have replaceable fuses.

that was 1 modification. Yea I seen that. there was also a modification for shorts.

I posted a warning about that in one of the other threads. The original PB100 adapters had an insulator on the tip that could chip, short and fry the motherboard. That happened to mine, Apple had one of those super secret extended warranties on the things for quite some time, IIRC.

There may have been another issue as well, but that's the only shorting problem I remember.
