Mac IIcx ©1988
Posted by: danda on 2013-07-07 05:37:14
Hi all,

Recently I bought a Macintosh IIcx motherboard off ebay. I only got round to cleaning it a few days ago and then I noticed that the copyright date on the motherboard was 1988, which confused me because the Macintosh IIcx was introduced in 1989. Is this normal for all Macintosh IIcx motherboards's?

Thanks,

Andrew

it was likely designed in '88. most Apple logic boards and ASIC's have copyright dates that are one or more years before the actual machine's debut to the market.

Yep, case in point, the Revision B Apple //e board. 1982 is the copyright date, but, IIRC, it didn't come out until early 1983.

Ditto for the 128K Mac boards. They have a 1983 date yet they came out in 1984.

Most SEs made before mid-1988 (the ones with specs listed on the rear bucket) have a 1986 copyright date--yet only one (the prototype I own) is confirmed to have been made that year.

Both the IIcx and SE came out in March of their respective years (1987 and 1989). Chances are the designs were finalized sometime in late November or December, then the factories were tooled to produce them en masse.

Sometimes, parts in computers will also have older dates if they are interchangeable. The Centris 650 I just put up for trade had a power supply dated December 1992 from its code (the Mac itself was made in February 1993).
