Haven't seen one of these in a while on ebay. It is missing the bezel and no cache card.

Again, that isn't a prototype.

I have one of these daystar cards and I can tell you that it leaves the regular 60mhz PPC cards in the dust. Even without the extra cache the speed is noticeable and of course the onboard RAM slots are coupled with the CPU bus so the onboard ram is WAY faster than you would otherwise see in say, a Quadra 950.

Yep, I was going to make that point about the onboard RAM and about the PDS on there as well, they make this card more like the Rocket (in accelerator mode) model of a computer on a card. The other PPC upgrades cards are more like the PowerCache model of acceleration, where the PDS can be a nasty system bottleneck.

Onboard cache is a HUGE plus, I hadn't seen that part as yet.

Mine has the cache (had to rig my own heatsink and fan since it came without one). The cache (pretty sure) and RAM work in 68K mode btw, a HUGE plus for me.

From the Ad:

This is a DayStar PowerPro with RAM expansion. This is pretty much the best upgrade you can get for a Quadra. This is an 80MHz PowerPC 601 upgrade, and although there are upgrades with faster CPUs (100MHz), this one has 4x 72 pin RAM slots. When in PowerPC mode, the memory on the card is addressed in 64-bits. And when in 68040 mode, the memory on the card is still accessible. I used this for quite a while in a Quadra 950 as my primary computer. That made the system have a total of 20 RAM slots and a max memory capacity of 384MB! This is compatible with the following models:
Quadra 650

Quadra 700

Quadra 800

Quadra 900

Quadra 950

Centris 650

It requires a minimim of MacOS 7.5 (last I checked 7.5.3 is available for free on Apples website). Also, you will need a DayStar extension that allows you to switch between PowerPC mode or 68040 mode. This item worked fine last time I used it, but I havent tested it recently. It is being sold as-is. Included is the original box (the sleeve is in rough shape). Also included is the memory pictured, though I cant remember what size it is. Even if you dont want to use this as a PPC accelerator, this would be very useful for its RAM expansion capabilities alone. You can add up to an additional 128MB to any model it is compatible with. This increases the memort capacity of the Quadra 700, for example, from 68MB to 196MB.

These card's are very cool… I would like to own one some day.

I think this card in my Q800 would be pretty nifty!

That is one seriously crazy upgrade... and would look AWESOME right next to a fully populated Radius Rocket. 😛
