Apple's Video Cables
Posted by: CelGen on 2013-05-31 23:09:51
While rewiring a KVM switch to pass the monitor sense lines through I discovered that Apple's DB15 video cables are not completely pinned. A shorter one is missing two sense lines and Vsync, the other slightly longer one has no H or V sync pins. I'm assuming this is all because for a while Apple's monitors were Sync on Green but did they ever make cables that were completely passive?

I'm not aware of one, all the Apple cables I have are resolution specific, unfortunately, a couple of the third party cables I've collected are as well.

I only have a single VGA adapter cable that appears to be passive, but that one likely has the diode wired inline. It has handled every resolution I've ever thrown its way, but I've misplaced it sometime in the last month. It'll turn up soon, I'm back in buttoning up the hacks boxen mode . . .

. . . every once in a while I have a hankerin' to see some of the carpet in the living room. ;D
