SE Powercache Adapter
Posted by: jwse30 on 2013-05-25 07:02:56
A few weeks ago, I found an SE Powercache adapter on eBay. I was gambling hoping that it was for an SE/30, but it wasn't. It says it also works for the Classic also. I was hoping it would work with my 040 card, but it doesn't mention it, and I think the cards it says it works with are newer 030 cards. One neat thing about this adapter is that it allows for a 16 M SIMM to add to the 4M on the mobo.

Here's some pictures of it, it was new in the box. I guess it will stay new in the static wrap until I find an appropriate card for it.

Yeah, the SE and SE/30 have completely different, incompatible PDS slots.

What these adapters do is replicate the PDS slot from the IIci. Daystar's accelerators were all - '030 and '040 versions alike - made to work natively in that slot, and require an adapter for any other machine.

In theory, your adapter should work with either version of the Daystar accelerators. The only gotcha might be that (as the box indicates) it was made before the '040 accelerators were produced, so compatibility probably wasn't tested and debugged, there may not be ROM support, etc etc etc.
