MicroQuadra!
Posted by: kissmyash933 on 2013-05-16 21:50:34
I've had this machine for about a month now, just havent gotten around to posting. But, a little while back, I was looking around for an LC III, and a seller on LEMSwap just so happened to have one. (for 35 shipped, I might add!) To my surprise when I opened the box, not only was there an LC III in there, but a Q605 as well! Someone else gave me the monitor a little while ago, and so it ends up being that I now have a completely Apple Branded, period correct machine. I've never had a Mac with all of its period correct matching components before. (some of these things I did have laying around though...)

Upgraded to a 1 GB SCSI HD. Put the smaller drive in the LCIII which was lacking a drive.

upgraded to 36 MB of ram.

OverClocked to 33MHz (and the LCIII as well, thanks Uniserver for the good directions!)

Gave it a fresh install of System 7.5.3

Farallon EtherWave (with two ethernet ports, still havent quite figured out why, exactly.)

Dug the ole' AppleCD 300 out of the box to go with it.

Took the timebomb Red Maxxell battery out and replaced it with a fresh Tadiran.

The only thing that doesn't seem to be working properly is the FDD, it wont format a disk, and upon eject, the disk gets stuck. I had to open the lid to push the button to get that disk out. any advice on how to fix these old drives? I'd prefer not to use the chuck-it-and-replace method.

anywho, the microquadra is now running beautifully on my little coffee table workstation. Sorry for the bad image quality, I had to take this in ISO6400. 🙂

The phone makes this picture unbelievable (without it, could have fooled me that it wasn't 1995) , but beyond that she's a beaut!

Replace the phone with an older Nortel (then Northern Telecom) 2500 or a Western Electric 2500, and we would be perfectly fooled.

(WEco 2500 set)

I always liked the Q605 - the form factor is nice.

The reason Fallaron Etherwave cards have 2 Ethernet ports is so that you could daisy chain your 10baseT computers, from what I understand. It works like a hub.

Nice machine! Those 605s are fun to play with. Odd, the floppy drive on my 605 won't read or write disks either. Must be the early self-inject FDDs.

Also, be careful around the Spindler Plastic. My Q605's case was damaged in shipping.

Very nice...while I have a 475, I've always wanted a 605. Because they're sexier. 🙂

Also - the mouse isn't exactly period-correct - you need an ADB Mouse II to be completely period correct. 🙂 Oh, and I envy your caddies! (I only have two)

Very cool machine and a very nice setup. I only had two or three caddies as well, but I bottom fished a nice lot of them recently from the eBay deeps.

What keyboard did the 605 ship with (speaking of period correct accessories)? I know it had the teardrop mouse (ADB II), but did it ship with the little ADB keyboard or with the Design II?

According to this (from http://www.vectronicsappleworld.com/profiles/69.html), the keyboard was the customer's choice at that time - they used an Extended II for the official photo shoot, but the customer could have chose any Apple keyboard available at the time.

So was it like a Mac Mini? You can buy whatever keyboard you want, but it doesn't ship with one. That would explain the sub $1000 price.

The Mac mini doesn't even come with a mouse. Just the computer and power cord.

What model of monitor is that? I just use mine with a Color Plus 14".

Thats a Macintosh Colour Display. Nice 14" Trinitron. I'd be surprised if you haven't seen one before - they sold millions of them mostly with LC series machines.

thanks for the good words, comrade's 🙂

I was not aware that the Q605 was advertised with an extended II and the teardrop mouse. I do have those, but for some reason I always just thought that the little adb board and square mouse were what belonged with the mini-pizzabox macs. 😛

@themacguy, I'm trying to be as careful as possible with it, one of the tabs on the back snapped during shipping. 🙁

Now, if I had any phones that aren't IP phones, I'd definitely make a picture to fool you guys. 😛

Indeed the monitor is the Macintosh Color Display (M1212) I'm surprised to hear that it's a Trinitron though, It certainly does not look that way to my eyes. It's got a little bit of color distortion, but perhaps it doesn't have a built in degaussing mechanism? Either way, I can get my degaussing ring out to fix it, I'm just a little lazy at the moment.

I'm looking more for the computers then the monitors. 😛 I'll complete the sets later, when I have more room.

I have reached my absolute maximum limit for collecting, for now. No room. I might be able to stuff a few pizza boxes under my bed, but that is it. I have even started piling them up. One stack contains the 650, 610 and Color Plus monitor.
