| Weller Soldering Station |
Posted by: bibilit on 2013-05-12 04:45:10 Found this morning a Weller WEC-20 Soldering Station.
Was dirty, but complete, and only 5 €.
Tested, and working great.

Not mine on picture, but the same layout.

Posted by: coius on 2013-05-12 14:08:07 Just like the one that was stolen out of my honda. Those are nice soldering station.
Looking around ebay, it seems the head units die on those. I am not sure if it's the transformer or what, but I just found a bunch of dead ones.
i am looking at replacing the one I lost with a hakko. I have a desoldering gun made by Hakko and it's nice. has a pump with a heated tip. The tip stays hot, and when you put it over the solder, it melts it and you squeeze the trigger and the pump sucks it up into a chamber.
Those are made like tanks. I suggest you get one of those as well. much better than braided or solder suckers.
It's about $300. Get the one from Japan, not the one from china. japan's are built better.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2013-05-12 21:48:19 I have the same Hakko 808 desoldering gun. It's really nice for taking RAM slots and the like out.
I use a Weller WD-1 soldering station with a WSP-80 pencil. I love it. It's one of the best gifts my wife has bought for me!

I think uniserver uses a Hakko soldering station and really likes it.

I think uniserver uses a Hakko soldering station believe it or not i was going to buy that!!!!
I bought this station as a temporary, just to get me by.
So far i love it, in fact i bought another one i have 2.
Technically i have 3 because, I bought my wife one, to do these SMD electronics project kits with.
They are only 19.99, they are very rugged, the tip is quality, does not degrade.

if my wife buys me a Hakko next december for my birthday i will not complain! 🙂
but for now these are working out quite well!

Posted by: krye on 2013-05-13 07:21:43 Congrats on the conquest.
I've always wanted a Weller, but could never bring myself to drop the ~$200 on the model that I wanted. My wife picked up a Haako FX888 for me last Christmas. It was only $90 on Amazon and it has to be the best soldering iron I've ever used.

Posted by: insaneboy on 2013-05-14 07:43:11 I'm a cheap ass. I got one like this

works better than the ole radio shack pencil. 😛 I just tinker with pre 80's audio gear, for that it works great. and the hot air is perfect for melting heat shrink tubes.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2013-05-14 08:49:54 I need to get a hot air station at some point.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-05-14 09:56:20 People tell me I'm full of hot air all the time!

Posted by: uniserver on 2013-05-14 10:46:07 mcdermd you totally do need to get one man 🙂
techkinght was complaining about his cheaper Chinese one he has.( in one of his youtube vids )
The one where he removes the borns filter from a se/30 board.
Maybe spend a few bucks and have the wife get you a nicer one 🙂

Looking around ebay, it seems the head units die on those. I am not sure if it's the transformer or what, but I just found a bunch of dead ones. It'd be kind of ironic if they all have bad capacitors...

It'd be kind of ironic if they all have bad capacitors... The way this world seems to work, it probably is bad capacitors...
