was connecting ok until I had a major crash and had to reinstall os 7.5.3 on SSD card to boot .
Boots Ok now from HD and SSD .
Light flashes on 3Com card briefly , but cannot connect to router for Internet access .
have re - installed 3Com card Driver , TCP seems set up ok ( I set it to manual not DCHP ).
Any suggestions ? ( apart from the obvious which involves a dumpster )

I assume you are using Open Transport instead of Classic Networking? You'll see a Control Panel for TCP/IP if you are using Open Transport.
It might be useful to make sure you are running the latest Open Transport, which is 1.3 if I recall. System 7 Today should have the drivers: http://main.system7today.com/updates/75x_powerpc.html
By default, Open Transport only activates the TCP/IP stack if an application needs it, so you might need to boot up a browser if you have not already done so.
Setting Appletalk to use the Ethernet card might help too, or it will give you an error saying it cannot.
Maybe this site might help out? http://www.floodgap.com/retrotech/mac/enet3c589/I'm not sure what card you have, if it is the C or D card
| Posted by: prak97 on 2015-10-18 19:40:29 Thanks for that , lots of useful info.
It's a C card by the way , and it was working OK on sys 8 before the crash .
I got the HD going again with the use of a DiskTools floppy , now it tells me the "software is designed to run from a floppy", but I can boot into it OK .....and I dont have the original Sys 8 install disk(s) ...( I don't think it's available for free ) 🙂
I also installed a 7.5.3. onto a CF card and can boot from that .
Seems that neither OS /card wants to "handshake" the Cable Modem, it's not showing a connect light at the modem side.
I d' loaded the Open Transport and re-installed that .And upgraded the 7.5.3 to 7.5.5 , but no difference.
I'm beginning to think the Etherlink card has died even though it flashes at boot up .
Thanks again...

We're allowed to discuss them now, if I remember correctly. Yes, we are, but while the administration will no longer be actively snipping such things, it's still not encouraged that we post links to it all over the place.
That being said, MG has all the Mac OS versions you could ever want (including 8.x).
