I have 2 hard disk drives from an SGI/IRIX machine that I want to image/clone. The drives are ultra-wide SCSI with an SCA connector. The only logical way to do this, that I can think of, is to put the drives in another computer with a SCSI interface. Since Ubuntu Linux can read the IRIX file system, I assume pop the drives in my Power Mac G4 connected via SCSI, boot into UbuntuPPC Mac, and image the drives. But I need a SCSI controller card.
I've been looking on eBay and it looks like the Adaptec 2940U2B is a good choice. This is specifically a Mac card. I am wondering if I would need the Mac or PC version when using Ubuntu linux? I'm not very familiar with this kind of stuff.
Thank you very much in advance!

P.S. if anyone has any experience with imaging or cloning IRIX drives, I'd love some tips!

Those cards used to be an option in PowerMac G4 towers so they "just work" in os9/x.
IIRC I accidentally booted ubuntu instead of os9 when I was rescuing files from my FUBAR'd LC HDD. again IIRC, it mounted.
