| Sad Mac icon error code problem need help |
Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-11 04:49:55 Im a bit stuck on this code, I've already looked at online but still cannot pin point what it means exactly:
SADFACE
00000005
00008000
any idea? I've washed the board (although maybe not well enough) and its a lot cleaner and removed most of the junk that was on there. Put it back in and still same code.
any help will give me a happy mac face, thank you.

Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-11 09:40:49 Well this is a bit vague. your lacking some information here, as to WHAT machine it is? And if this code is occuring before disk access, or after?

Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-11 16:40:41 Sorry just assumed these error codes have the same meaning. Macintosh Classic. boots up with no chime. and shows this code straight away. I can disconnect the HDD and its the same thing.

Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-11 18:14:28 probably needs recapped.
And no they do not, they vary by model.

Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-12 05:17:07 Anyone know what the codes actually mean?
|
Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-12 14:56:26 There is information on how to decode sadmacs. But its moot until the logic board is recapped, and the AB.

Posted by: Paralel on 2015-10-12 15:04:09 TK is right, no point in troubleshooting codes until the basics are done. Otherwise, you solve one sadmac, you get a different one after that, and one after that, etc...ad nauseam

Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-13 03:06:41 I've recaped it today same error code. If anyone can decode the error it would be highly appreciated.

Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-13 05:45:49 Code 5 = bad RAM. either on-board, or external card. If on board chances are the cap goo rotted a trace or two going to the RAM ICs.
|
Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-19 06:12:05 what about the second line of error code? I've tried baking the logic board in the oven as well, same error. seems to have done a good job on reflowing it but same error.
|
Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-19 14:55:27 address location. But its not important until you either remove the RAM and use the external card only, or fix the trace. Its possible one of the RAM ICs is simply bad as well.

Posted by: GetTaDaChopa on 2015-10-21 18:37:32 so it should wotk with all the ics removed with just the card? i removed all the ram chips from the logic board and pluged the external card in and its a sad mac with a different error obviously saying the ram is missing? can i use any chips to replace the inboard ones? the knboard ones are mitsubishi? can take the ram fronthe external chips and solder them in to the logic board?

Posted by: techknight on 2015-10-21 18:59:23 I remember there was an experiment with removing the RAM in another thread. Whether it works on a classic or not, I cant remember.
