Posted by: James1095 on 2013-04-23 14:47:48 They work just fine, in fact they are arguably superior to tantalum in terms of performance and reliability. Only reason I've mostly used tantalum is that they are roughly half the cost of the ceramics. Either one is vastly superior to the original parts. The original SMT electrolytics are *terrible* capacitors by nearly any measure. I'm not entirely sure why they're as lousy as they are, but the specs are junk across the board. If it uses a SMT electrolytic, the specs are not critical and anything with the same ratings will work fine.

Plus, they're ceramic and look nifty. 🙂 If they do work, I'd be tempted to buy a few to to recap my IIci so match my white HDD. Not to mention that you could probably dye those suckers and make some cool colored caps.

Posted by: James1095 on 2013-04-24 12:30:31 I've used them, they install nicely, actually even easier than tantalums because they conduct heat nicely and the solder flows easily. They're smaller too so it's easier to get at both sides with an iron to install them in tight places. An added perk is they are non-polarized so you don't have to worry about getting them the right way around. As I mentioned, the only reason I haven't used them widely is cost, in most cases the cheaper tantalum caps are more than good enough. If you don't mind spending a bit more, by all means give the ceramic caps a go, they're very good.

When I send you my boards for their much needed recaps, you can use these! I'm willing to pay a bit extra if it'll improve the board's reliability over the standard tantalums or electrolytics. Keep us informed as to the success of your experiments! c

Love these caps, they look great once installed. very easy to install, no worry about polarity 🙂 Normally i'd have a picture, but HAP's Portable Back-lit board was massively expedited. I didn't even test it, he received it tonight, and said that its working with flying colors. So basically these caps should last forever pretty much? Charles

Posted by: uniserver on 2013-06-17 23:36:41 ah just found another great benefit of the ceramic caps, you can stack them eaisly, on top of each other Double up the Capacitance for use when you may not have a certain value in stock !
