Boot and run off a compact flash

I have a PowerBook 520c with an upgraded 100 mhz processor and rev c module running 7.6. My goal is to boot and run using a compact flash card from the PCMCIA slot. Can someone point me to an PCMCIA CF adapter that plays well with the PB's module? Any other information that will help me accomplish my goal will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Posted by: Byrd on 2013-03-30 02:13:03 I've used several, very generic CF --> PCMCIA adapter cards with success in my PB540c (rev C card cage) without issue. There is very little in these cards, so I'd try the cheapest eBay Hong Kong special and it should be fine.

Posted by: Mk.558 on 2013-03-30 06:13:03 I was told once that the PCMCIA is just a pin-to-pin IDE compatible interface... I use a Transcend 2GB Industrial CF in the Duo 230/100. Industrial variants cost more, but are more robust and are flagged as Fixed Disk, not Removable Media.

Collected some months ago a CompactFlash Type II adapter, from Delkin devices: Also collected very cheap, two brand new transcend CF cards (256 Mb) Using my Powerbook 5300, the adapter and card were detected immediately, the card was formated and mac Os 8.5 was copied to the card. I selected to start from the card, and the Powerbook booted right away...in silence. 🙂 Don't think the boot sequence is quicker, but the process cannot be easier.
