Epic $5 mouse conquest: NEW Mouse Systems ADB Optical Mouse!
Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-29 18:32:52
Check out what I found at WeirdStuff! I was lamenting having sold a lot of stuff lately to make ends meet, but I thought I'd swing by Weird Stuff. You never know what they have. Hadn't been there in about 5 months. Was moping around when the optical mouse pad popped out at me. Then the words "for Apple computer." Woo! Please be cheap! $5! Woot! ADB version?! Yep! Still shrink wrapped! 😀

Just tried it out, and man is this smooth. Nice, soft, smooth felt on a shiny metal pad. 😎 I looks like an Apple mouse on a diet.

Nice grab!

I really need to swing by Weird Stuff again.

I also saw a shrink wrapped LC Ethernet card there for $5, but I already have one. Since I was last there, though, they did a lot of house cleaning in the back. A lot of stuff that was on my "eh, maybe sometime later" is now gone. However, I suspect they'll be adding in more stuff to shuffle through. This mouse is a great example. 🙂

I love these mouses, I have the larger adb version, but my optical mouse pad is worn. Was there any more there?

I had a Sun optical mouse that used one of those same kind of pads, they were very nice at the time. I'm glad you found this, nice score!

awesome

Nice. I acquired a couple of those over the years but without the special mousepad without which they're pretty much unusable

That was the only mouse I could find there. However, if you need an optical mouse pad, they have quite a few Sun versions. Might work with your mice.

Mouse Systems made those mice for SUN and they had an Amiga version as well (same type of mirror metal mousepads with lines).

The mouse pads worked for both the Sun and ADB versions. If you have the ADB version and can find a Sun pad you're fine.

Probably the same mouse pad then. If anyone needs one or a replacement, let me know. Weird Stuff is on my way home, I could pick up a few optical pads.

Check for more $10 & under LC 10baseT Cards if you would. Looks like I may need them for a BrickOven/NetBSD/CodeCookerCube. 😉

NICE rodent conquest, BTW. :approve:

If you have a laser printer, there is a PDF floating around of an alternate pattern you print to a piece of transparency and glue tinfoil to one side. It works flawlessly as a replacement for a real mousepad. You could probably even print a new mousepad if you can find someone who can print to a sheet of polished metal.

You could try a straight edge and a sharpie on a mirror.

I've heard printing a grid and placing it in a plastic sheet protector, or laminating it, works. I have the old 25-pin serial PC version somewhere without pad or power cord, so I've never tested it, never had a use either as it came with a PC-6300 I got and it only runs DOS anyways.

Hi,

I think I actually have one of those mouse "pads". It's metal with a pattern of lines printed on it, right?

I have no use for it, so if anyone wants it, let me know!
