| Dodgy speaker - Ti Powerbook 1Ghz |

I recently obtained a 1Ghz PPC Powerbook Titanium (Model: M8859) as per this thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20660&p=200276#p200276).
It works great, except only the right speaker works, and sometimes even that one cuts out. I presume it's a loose connection somewhere. Any suggestions as to the best place to start looking or the likely cause? I'm capable to strip the machine down and get dirty with the soldering station 🙂

You can take it apart to find out for sure, i know there was a software patch for my ibook G4 1.42 ghz that was firmware. Might search apple to see if anything exists for that unit.

I did it three years ago, it was on apples site. Search for the model number should make it pop up.

There's no firmware update for the M8892/A1025 (the 1GHz Ti Powerbook).
Pulled the logic board - cables all seemed intact and attached. Put it all back together again - still only mono sound - and now only coming through the headphone jack. I've read that this can be a sticking jack, as only headphone is selectable in OSX's sound control panel. Wriggling the headphone plug didn't resolve it. The fact it's only mono through the headphone, as well as the external speaker, leads me to suspect a soundboard i.e. logic board problem, rather than a loose or blown speaker, no?

Just a final update to this / close the loop.
Put in a known good set of A1025 speakers, still no sound. Presuming it's a logic board problem, related to the headphone jack. Can't be bothered fiddling with it further, so I've got another A1025 powerbook coming which is missing a hard drive - but the sounds works 🙂
Between 'em, should have a running, talking OS9-er!
