Post your favorite Hacks & Mods here!

I was asked by someone in regards to my Dual Drive LC hack to start a thread so people could post their own personal favorite hacks or mods. These are hacks you did to your own machines that you are particularly proud of. For example, I'll be posting my LC hack because I really like how it turned out. For fun, perhaps everyone could assign an Trash style β„’ name to their hack.

Also, Trash, you can only pick ONE of your limitless hacks. I know this'll be tough for you. πŸ˜‰

Also, HackWhining is strictly prohibited in this thread. :-x

------------------------------------

Project: Dual-Drive-LCβ„’

Machine: Macintosh LC

Hardware: 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive, 230MB Magneto Optical Drive, 160MB 2.5" SCSI HDD, 10MB RAM, Presto! 040 Accelerator.

System: System 7.1.1 Pro

Information: It's an original Macintosh LC with both a floppy drive and 230MB MO drive installed in the floppy bays, and a 2.5" SCSI HDD. The HDD is from a broken PowerBook 180 with a 2.5" SCSI to 50-pin SCSI adapter and Y power cable adapter. There are two plastic screws installed in which the HDD fits snugly and securely behind the fan, with the adapter resting parallel upon two oscillators. I had to do some creative cable origami with the SCSI cable, but in the end, it all fit nicely. It has installed 10MBs of RAM and a Presto! 040 accelerator. Networking is handled via MacIP over the Serial Port using an AppleTalk to Ethernet bridge.

That is one tightly spaced pizza box! πŸ™‚

It's Awesome!

So my idea is to do the same hack, but with a Q605/LC475 LB, in a LC-II bottom, LC-1 top, and use a ZIP 100 drive where the hd would normally be.

Will be able to install a LC NIC Card, and the FULL 040 will be running at 33mhz , maybe 40 or 42 mhz depending

on how ambitious i get πŸ™‚ basically my new low power bridge mac, File Server, everything machine. /w a 320meg Quantum 2.5" hd

(mounted some where else in the pizza box)

I already ordered the 2.5 to 3.5 scsi cable adaptor, I need to find a molex splitter πŸ™‚ Need to power both HD and Zip Drive.

I was going to call mine something too: I was considering:

FrankenLC605β„’

TheLCBeastDD475β„’

BeastlyDoubleD605β„’

BigDD'sLC605β„’

πŸ™‚

Specs:

Full 040, 33/40/42mhz

128 megs of ram

230meg HD

100meg SCSI Zip

Sony 2mb Auto Inject

1mb vram 2x 512k's

LCPDS Apple AAUI NIC CARD

Touchless NeXT to PC conversion.

This is THE best conversion I have ever seen. Fit a good, fast and upgradeable Intel inside with ZERO damage to the cube chassis (it's reversible! :O ). No ragged edges, no sloppy work and no drastic changes to the original style.

Shiny?

Shiny?
"The whole Cube was cleaned from the old colour and powder coated in a shiny black colour (RAL 9005). I went to a special company for that which is specialized in restoration of vintage cars. However the coating was not that perfect as I expected since there were some bladders and it was not perfectly even - but I think (since I'm not taking part in modding competitions) it's a nice impression."

Wow, that's an awesome mod. I used to have access to a 3D printer when I worked at a college, but now that I'm working for a junior high school, all the fun toys are gone. πŸ˜›

No HackWhining? Ahh, too bad.

All I say is-I won't hack my Mac.

OOM - Would it be safe to say. You were the most disturbed when jt got out his saws and started cutting up that one?

As Far as what I plan on doing should be 100% reversible.

Likewise with what olePigeon did here to his RAD LC.

I don't normally use the word " RAD " ether.

Dude, this topic is "Post your favorite Hacks & Mods here!" what did you expect?

I've had an crazy thought about Quadra 950 with anything from dual core G5 to MacPro guts inside... oh man!

OOM - Your thinking about it wrong.

He is taking something, and creating something else. Can't you appreciate a customization?

It's like art with additional utility added.

I don't have anything to show in the hardware department. But once i wrote a webserver in /bin/sh, that should count for something. πŸ˜€

I guess it's all about how many macs you have. If you have one, or just a few like me, and you don't have a constant supply of new 68k macs, you tend to preserve instead of remix.

That said, if you have spare macs to remix, by all means, remix! |)
