Radius Rocket in a DuoDock, IT WORKS!!!!
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-03-09 10:00:34
I'm playing with the Duos again now that the IIfx is down for a bit. If anyone has experience Rocketizing a DuoDock, please share. 😉

I haven't but sounds interesting, would the software install on the duo? I know when I tried on my Q950 the software wouldn't even install because it wasn't a "compatible system".

Dunno, that's what I want to find out! :approve:

I'm hoping a 7.1 "install for any Macintosh" will work with RocketWare on all but the 2300c. If 7.1.1 is 7.1 Pro, that may also work with RocketWare on the 2300. If I ever run across my RocketShare media again, that'll be the next go-round. Did you try that with your 950? A lot of Macs that wouldn't install/support RocketWare will run run one under RocketShare.

Yup, tried Rocketshare. Worked on my IIci but not on the Quadra 950. I wonder if because the card acts as a Q950, that's why they won't run on a Q950.

I just looked in the Milk Crate full of files underneath the workstation . . . RocketStuff!!!!!! [😀] ]'>

LowendMac strikes again . . .

PowerBook Duo 280c . . . supports System 7.1 to Mac OS 8.1
PowerBook Duo 250 . . . supports System 7.1 to Mac OS 8.1
Should I bother cobbling together a Duo 230? :🙂

Is 7.1.1 AKA 7.1 Pro, if not, is it Rocket tolerant anyway? :?:

Never mind . . .

PowerBook Duo 230 . . . supports System 7.1 to Mac OS 8.1
< VERY LOUD BRONX CHEER FOR LEM!!!!!!! >

7.1.1/7.1 Pro questions reiteration?

... why not try it with a Duo 2300 and RocketShare? Seems much more likely to work than a 68030 Duo with RocketWare.

...a 2300 in a DuoDock+ with a Rocket and a DOS card would be pretty spiffy. PowerPC, 68k, and x86 all represented.

I'm trying RocketShare under 7.5.5, just finished installing it using the 250, I'll switch to the topless 230 with more memory, the 250's only got 8MB . . .

. . . I had to turn on VM just to run HDT in order to blow 7.1 off the drive in the Dock! :🙂

The Rocket won't actually be in a Dock when & if, much less the Dock+ it'll be a Dock 1 board riser in another box entirely. I don't have room in there for a second long card, so it'll be the 7" Futura IISX/10baseT Daughtercard for decent Video Out and EtherNet, which the Dock 1 lacks.

Curses! Gotta start over . . . forgot how just how minimal a friggin' minimal install is, not even CD support. :-/

Great news, the readme file on Disk 1 of the RocketShare install set lists the Duo/DuoDock as supported! But not its built-in-video port, gotta tear it down and toss the Futura II SX/10baseT combo in there ahead of schedule, but this is an awesome turn of events!

Watch, after all this, one of my 800k Installer disks will turn out to be borken. :-/

The 21 year old 800k Floppies worked a charm! ;D

WE HAVE LIFTOFF!

Install failure on attempt one . . .

. . . tried it with all modules selected . . .

. . . de-selected the AppleShare install and all is good! :approve:

Tiny little 640x480(?) window for the Rocket on the 1024x768 Radius/KDS LCD though, it's running off one of the 8bit Radius Cards, ATM. I'm wondering if I can run the Rocket off the VidCard and the Duo off the DuoDock????

I discovered that the Dock Board I've been playing around with is a Dock II board, installed it in the Dock+ to test everything headed into the other box all at once. It has AAUI on board along with the Cache and FPU conspicuously missing from the Dock+ Board. Misnomer that, it's more of a Dock-Minus if you ask me, but the 2300c doesn't use either, so no worries.

The Dock+/II works great! I'm happy & about done for the night. [😀] ]'>

Tried the 2300c and it bombed immediately on boot.

Tried the 280c and it worked fine . . . until I tried to shut down the rocket . . . xx(

Didn't have time to try the 250 before work . . . later!

Gotta try the 270c board in the pop top 230. }🙂

I've gotten more positive results playing with bare MoBos in the 230 convertible.

270c

280c

2300c

All are booting the Rocket, but there are still some issues, more info later after further testing.

250 works like a champ, as expected.
