I picked up a 533Mhz Digital Audio for a few £'s recently with the intention of using it as a dedicated machine for my amateur radio station for digital modes, Now, I have an interface cable to hook my Yaesu HF rig to the computer but was stumped to find NO mic input on the bloody Mac! So I need a sound card, but this isn't proving simple...
i picked up a really cheap CMI-8738 but have not been able to get it to work. The hacked driver that's available for it won't install, but even if I can get my head around that I read this morning that the mic input will not work with that driver. So think again...
To help me sort through the chaff on ebay, could some kind soul please point out a few sound cards that will definitely work with this machine and have 3.5mm jack mic and speaker sockets? Thanks!
| Posted by: Sloar on 2013-03-08 06:54:13 The best sound card you could get fairly easy on ebay would be an M-Audio Revolution pci sound card that works great with PPC Mac's. I have one in my Quicksilver and both the OS9 and OS X drivers work perfect. The sound quality is amazing as well with up to 24bit 192khz playback.
| Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2013-03-08 06:58:11 There's always the Griffin iMic. It's what I use on my Digital Audio for analog-in.
| Posted by: thatsteve on 2013-03-08 08:31:08 I've given the imic and the like some thought, but I don't think that they'll be up to the job of transferring the data as cleanly/efficiently as I'd need for the radio digital modes to work well. So I'm definitely looking at a proper card.
The M-Audio revolution looks perfect, but they're very thin on the ground, just one on ebay at the moment, and that's in Greece and I don't want to drop £20 on postage... There is one that's currently inside a G5 available, and within driving distance for me. i think I shall keep an eye on that...
Thanks gents!
