PowerBook 170 Transparent Prototype
Posted by: olePigeon on 2013-03-04 09:07:39
I forgot I had these. A few pictures of a prototype PowerBook 170 and 540 that were being sold on my local Craigslist. Unfortunately at $2000 it was waaay out of my budget, but I did get some cool pictures of them. Visually, the 540 isn't nearly as interesting, except maybe for the off-color hinges.

Nice pictures. Funny you say the 540 has off color hinges, were there matching color hinges on that series? The ones I have are all that color. Thank you for sharing.

I'm still in awe how people got the clear plastic macs.

I'm a fan of the powerbook 170! and the 540c

they both have amazing screens.

However I appreciate the fact the 170 has a FPU and Both fpu and cpu operate at 33mhz that is pretty strong!

I'd love to get a clear prototype PB 170!

It's pretty much entirely out of my price range.

A quick Google search shows that the mismatched hinges is normal on a 540c. Obviously a late prototype, then, very close to production.

Looking at the rear of the prototype, it has a spot for the larger Apple logo, even though it has the smaller one there.
