G5 cases

Years ago, I got a badly damaged G5 in the post off eBay, a dual 1.8 from 2004. Nice, quiet machine it has turned out to be, for basic tasks, but the thing looks like the leaning tower of Pisa with its squished legs.

I have just found a single processor G5 tower locally going cheap, and have checked out the condition of the case -- I found that rare thing, perfection. So I am thinking of picking it up so that I can transplant my G5 duallie's innards into a pristine case. Is this possible?

I know the late 2005 cases are different, and (yes, I have searched, Bunsen) there's a thread on here about that, but what about the earlier G5 cases?

You can do it, but it's not easy (especially the power supply).

Excellent. I think I'll go ahead with it, then.

I don't mind the work. I have dissassembled several far enough now to apply new thermal paste and recalibrate, so that part isn't intimidating. Complete take-apart will be interesting.
