I got this yesterday, yes birthday of the mac.

I tell you what, when I opened the box and saw this beauty I was shocked.

I've yet to see a machine more polished and perfect as this one

I call this machine, The Mcdermd

He puts the same effort into every machine, try's to bring each one back

to the absolute best of his abilities.

Talk about some serious passion. Big time kudos sir.

What a great machine indeed!

Full 68040 @ 33mhz /w heatsink

32mb stick of ram 72 pin

Ethernet Card

Custom Installed (hand soldered) ROM Simm Slot

Re-capped with precision of a robot

1 GB Hd

polished so well that you can see your teeth.

Actually I have two or three of these, and all of them have better plastics than almost any of the contemporary machines in my collection -- heck, better than some of my beige G3 machines.

Is it possible that the plastics used were just...better?

It could use a retrobrite bath but other than that, it seems pretty solid.

The big question is - when are you gonna use that ROM slot? 😉

Hi,

I try to restore my machines to similar condition, and I'm leery of hacking the external plastics in any way (unless the machine's a total loss, and I do have a couple of those 😉 ).

I haven't been at it quite as long (and I do it alone pretty much), so my abilities are somewhat limited (my joining you guys has greatly improved my abilities, though. The volume of my collection must've at least doubled this last year too :lol: ).

Anyway, back on topic...

I think your machine looks good, uniserver!

My Performa's almost as good! It's not yellow or anything-just got a stubborn brown mark near the back of the lid, but other than that it's almost perfect.

But I acknoledge that yours is better :approve: .

(Anyone ready for a "cleanest Mac" competition??? 😱) )

It's not about better or worse… I did not post this to brag,

I posted this talk about one mans dedication.

I hate to sound like a corn ball… but its the same thing that makes food taste good, the most important ingredient,

love. I know that Mcdermd loves his machines and takes great pride in his work… and that is somewhat rare these days, in any field really.

He takes the same amount of care when shipping something. When packing up a machine, he goes all out, installs cardboard divisions( if needed,

installs cardboard screen masks over CRT's, uses bubble wrap and styrafoam. 🙂 he packs machines very well.

On the machines which will accept 128MB 72 pin SIMMs, it works, except in the PM6100. Will the P578 work with a 128MB SIMM? If so, this will probably work.

The problem in the PM6100 seems to be how the RAS lines were paired. There're four of them on a SIMM, and by separating them into groups, the SIMM can have multiple banks on the SIMM. Well, the SIMM has two banks, but it seems to have its RAS lines paired in the opposite manner to what the PM6100 expects, which is really weird because Apple paired them correctly in the Quadra models, and then did them backwards in the PM6100.

I stopped my investigations before I checked to see if the RAS pairing is configurable. There're are four tiny resistors on the SIMMs, which might be used to set the RAS pairing....

I have a 2mb rom from dougg3 on the way, this should work nicly in the LC475.

I guess the 2mb rom Simms have flashing lights, I guess these lights are actually Jolly Rogers red demonic eyes.

How cool is that?

First things first,

Memory check disable

Change start up sound to Hal 9000. if possible

Change start up icon to grey apple logo

Maybe see if there is enough space to rom boot a os even if very limited

Very, but they stay lit, no flashing involved.

If I could find where I put mine, I could boot my IIsi again. Before posting about your mod, I yanked it to test the fit in the factory ROM Slot in the 605x . . .

. . . now I can't find any of several IIsi ROM SIMMs. :-/

I've misplaced a 12" NuBus NIC as well . . . :🙂

bbran has helped me out again!

Finally after almost a year. I sent my LC475 ROM BIN to bbran and he was able to remove the RAM CHECK, and he doesn't even have a LC475 either.

So i burned it to Dougg3's 2mb ROM and BAM… Instant Video! before i had to wait like 40 - 45 full seconds to see video, with that 128 meg ram simm in there.

Really nice. Next thing i would would like to try and get Hal9000 as the start up bong.
