| iBook Battery overcharged?!! | |
| Posted by: Green78II on 2013-01-14 23:16:56 I picked up an iBook a while ago that has recently shutting down randomly. Today I used coconut battery to check the charge on it. This is what came up  I received another iBook today from a recent conquest and I tested the battery that came with it and it tested at 4000 MaH. I popped the other battery out of my old iBook in the new iBook for verification and it came up with the same number 64740 MaH. Now this battery does not last even remotely close to what that capacity would suggest, but it is still usable (lasts about 35 minutes) My question is though, is this battery damaged to the point that it could cause damage to a computer? | |
| Posted by: Byrd on 2013-01-15 03:06:11 The battery isn't overcharged, but the chipset on the battery is misreporting it's capacity - in short, it's faulty and would need replacing for you to ever rely on your iBook when used off mains power. | |
| Posted by: jruschme on 2013-01-15 04:22:22 64470 sounds like the as-built capacity (65 Watts). 4400 (4.4 Watts) sound like the current capacity and is consistent with your 35 minute estimate of actual use. | |

| Posted by: Green78II on 2013-01-16 22:02:05 ^^ Lol! To clarify, the battery that lasts for 35 mins is the one that shows 64470 as the capacity. The one that shows 4000 actually lasts for about 3 1/2 hours. I guess I'll try to find a replacement battery and hopefully be able to fix any damage to the older iBook. Thanks everyone! | |
