| Floppy Drive Pinout |
Posted by: onlyonemac on 2013-01-14 12:16:29 Hi!
I have just found the pinout for the internal floppy drive connecter-the problem is, I don't know if it's the right one! Could someone please point me towards a Performa 475 internal floppy drive pinout?
Also, from the one I have got, I don't understand the function of some (most) of the connections-particulary the Phase control lines and also what goes down the read and write data lines. Also, how does the Mac control the track and sector (there's a separate head connection)? And, umm, where does the data go :?: ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I know this should go in the Peripharals forum, but the Development forum is more active.

Posted by: Gorgonops on 2013-01-14 13:33:48 Is this just for your own edification or are you intending to build something to interface with it? Search the board for "HD20". You'll find a long thread that contains a bunch of links describing how the Apple floppy drive system works. The most unique aspect of Apple machines is how drive head stepping is performed. (Links in said thread describe it. Note that Apple used both more-primitive and more advanced systems than "normal" Shugart floppy drives on the Apple ][ and the Macintosh respectively.)

I've confirmed the pinout to be correct, and found out some initialization basics through this morning's experimentation, but now I need to know exactly what the drive puts on the Read Data line!

I should have said that I've given up on what I was trying to do.
