| Radius SE TPD card drivers |
Posted by: apm on 2015-09-23 13:26:19 Does anyone have drivers for the Radius display cards for the Plus and SE?
I've been working on getting a Radius Two-Page Display card for the SE back up and running from a state where it was hanging the machine. See this TC thread:
SE PDS card ROMs
Now I'm getting somewhere with the hardware but stuck without the drivers. All I can find is a long-dead Mac Driver Museum link and some newer versions of RadiusWare that I think don't support the SE anyway. Any suggestions appreciated.

Radius.sea.hqx *** RadiusWare Disks for Mac Classic / SE / Plus
This is a complete copy of RadiusWare for the
Mac Classic, Mac SE, and Mac Plus. It
includes an installer program that will
determine what files your system will need to
work with your installed Radius Products.
It includes the following software:
RadiusWare CDEV v.2.0
Classic / SE / Plus Display CDEV v.4.1
RadiusMATH v. 1.5
Radius Accelerator v. 2.9
Responder v. 2.0.2
AppleTalk v. 56.0
This software is to be used for the following
Radius Products:
Accelerator 16 and 25 for the Mac SE
Full Page Display Interfaces for Mac
Classic, Mac SE and Mac Plus
Two Page Display Interfaces
for the Mac SE.
It also provides System 7 compatibility for
these products in conjunction with the proper
version of ROMS.
It sounds like anyone with the RadiusWare driver disk for any of the products mentioned should have the whole enchilada. [🙂] ]'>

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2015-09-23 18:47:18 Couldn't find the RadiusWare floppy, but I found all the documentation for the Radius16 that went down the storage room whirlpool inside its SE ten years ago.
On a HDD from well before that, in the driver downloads folder, I found the Installer set for the Radius FPD, my Eleanor going on almost three decades now, email sent.

Hope I got this correct since I had to type it in for some reason I can't copy and past into here.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2017-04-27 21:54:54 OK, searched around and wound up right back here!
Now I'm the one in need Radius.sea.hqx for my new SE/Radius16/TPD setup. Anybody got a link? I've got that TAR file and not one single clue how to break into it.
Did you ever get your card working, apm? Mine has the v4.4 ROMs you were looking for and is showing some signs of life.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2017-04-28 11:23:49 WinRAR on a PC opened it fine.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2017-04-28 21:34:17 Thanks for helping me out with the Accelerator drivers. It's strange that the Radius.sea.hqx file listed between those two went missing from the TAR files. Still looking for the FPD/TPD card drivers! Anybody got that file? :-/

I have many Mac SEs and find a Radius Two Page Display few weeks ago (February 2022) with the ROM version 3.3!
Does any of you (still) have drivers for it? I am searching the Radius.sea.hqx and the CL_SEA_PL.sea.hqx files.
In 2022 March on the https://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/radiuscards.html only the discription exists, the files behind the link are disappeared, because they're pointing to a nonexisting host : www.macdrivermuseum.com. Macintosh Repository and Macintosh Garden have the same archives but they are also for ROM version 4.x
or
Does anybody has the ROM files for 4.1 (or 4.4) versions?
I am hoping @Trash80toHP_Mini still have somewhere something... would be great!
Thank you. |
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2022-03-11 19:17:31 Yep, something, somewhere. 😉 From your ROM questions, I assume you meant you found the interface card, not the display? Couldn't find the thread in time available this morning, but you'll be looking for a thread with a title something like: Radius SE TPD up and running on an LCD no less.
Back again tonight, never did hit the post button. 🙄
Still need to get it set up for black on white, hopefully that's only a question of tying RGB inputs together at the VGA end of things, but my LCD success should give hope to others with SE cards dedicated to proprietary displays. After the Adjust in Progress screen dropped away, some patience...

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2022-03-12 07:48:05 Links to most of the pictures in that thread were lost in the mess the software upgrade crash caused. The links open, but apparently connected to randomly selected photos? Drivers you found (LINK?) for later ROM versions of card ought to be backward compatible, that's the Radius way based on my experience, so give it a shot.
Most everything else, including this ASCII art representation of "Trident" cable adaption description. I'll have to re-document a Readers Digested version of my research results a new thread when I get the chance, meanwhile here's a Rev.2 version:

At @Trash80toHP_Mini's request, a thread about the HDMI scaler I found myself using to do vintage Mac stuff on a modern screen. It works, at least for me, really well and I'd recommend it to other folks as well. It is also not *that* expensive. The model is Extron RGB-HDMI 300 or 300 A. I...

Posted by: atifeh on 2022-03-12 08:28:03 Yes, this is the interface card. The ROM labels are:
| for the LO chip: | for the HI chip: | ©1988 RADIUS INC
SE TPD
LO 297-0049-A
V 3.3 256K | ©1988 RADIUS INC
SE TPD
HI 297-0050-A
V 3.3 256K |
I will dump both ROM content for archiving.
The previously mentioned drivers are in the macintoshrepository.org and macintoshgarden.org. The contet listing is from https://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/radiuscards.html.
Everything what I find is for the ROM v4.x versions, nothing for earlier, especially for ROM v3.3.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2022-03-12 08:34:35 Nice! I was just typing up elaboration on above, but see you don't really need it yourself. Bolt HD15F up to that DE9 cutout. 🙂
Have you tested those drivers for backward compatibility yet?
_______________________________________________________ morning musings:
There are a lot of options available for the breakout panel. Do we have a dedicated thread yet for that kind of thing for SE, SE/30 & IIsi applications?
Should I start a new one maybe? This is is off topic here I think.
I probably have the largest collection of thais kinda crap on hand to kick it off? If someone wants to do a PCB layout for a baseline VGA connector board to bolt up to the back that would be great. Ground plane RFI shielding overall connected to bolt holes would be about perfect.
Put HD15F connector on one end along with mounting hole for WiFi antenna would be just about perfect. Remainder of board could be drilled out for any other connections desired . . .
edit: hrmmm, is there a panel mount SD card extender cable available? Model for printable panel mounting of available extender cable? |

Have you tried those drivers yet? Yes. Any of the RadiusWare or the Classic/SE/+ Display or anything what I find did not do anything on System 6.0.8. Basically if I dropped them into the System Folder, after reboot they crashed the whole system.
On System 7.0.1 the system hangs on boot "inside" the "Welcome to Macintosh" window.
That's why I think my ROM v3.3 is not compatible with the RadiusWare developed for the ROM 4.1 or ROM 4.4... |
Posted by: superseth on 2025-04-28 08:21:34 I too am on a quest for CL_SEA_PL.sea.hqx |
