IIsi PSU repair
Posted by: bibilit on 2013-01-02 08:15:57
A couple of weeks ago i tested my new (to me) Quicktake, using the IIsi for that purpose.

After 15 minutes, the IIsi turned itself off, with a loud bang and smoke coming from the PSU. 🙁

I waited for one minute, hit the switch again...and the IIsi came to life with no trouble.

I used the units for a pair of hours and all was OK.

Obviously, something was wrong anyway, and as i only have one PSU for my two units, i decided today to brake the PSU open.

One of the caps has gone bad, and i was able to find one locally:

Removing the old unit and getting the new one was just a couple of minutes.

you said that you only have one PSU for 2 machines?

maybe the same issue is wrong with the other psu?

Wonder if this cap is a common failure point.

Yes, the second one was sent to Zuiko21 (a member of 68k) in the first place i should have kept only one IIsi, but the second one was kept incomplete as a guinea pig.
