iBook G4 internal display dead?
Posted by: TheMacGuy on 2012-12-17 01:39:30
Alright, so today I got a call from a friend saying that their iBook G4 won't turn on properly. I grabbed a display and headed down. Using an adapter, I got the display connected and it worked. The entire display was mirrored. But the internal display stays gray. It bongs, CD drive spins up, and boots to the desktop with an external display but not the internal. What could be going on? Is the LCD cracked, backlight gone, cable loose? I'm absolutely stumped. Any ideas? :-/

What happens when you go to the monitors control panel and click "detect displays"?

I second the monitor question. The ibook G4 didnt have gpu issues, the airport solders were an issue tho (mine has that). You guesses are pretty on par, could open it up reseat cable but id guess the backlight is done, or maybe unseated from fall? The screen for me was hard to get apart when I replaced a cracked screen but it can be done.

Good Luck

After looking at the repair guide, that looks like quite a long project. It reconizes the internal display in Prefrences, but it doesn't display video on it. It just stays gray.

Its a good half hour to get apart the first time and a little involved.
