Posted by: KC13 on 2012-11-14 08:55:50 Hello,
I am now down to one Mac and it is non-functional. 8-o
I live in Ottawa, Canada and would appreciate any suggestions on strategies to locate older Macs before they get trashed. I am currently on a very limited income, so would need to get something free or real cheap. At last check, I still need to eat occasionally to keep me functioning. 🙂

Posted by: Concorde1993 on 2012-11-14 09:29:18 Your best bet is to check local ad sites (either Craigslist or Kijiji) and see what's available. You can also post a want ad for vintage Macs if nothing of interest turns up.
However, you state that your income is very limited, which leads me to wonder if obtaining older Macs should be a priority right now. :?:
To each his own, of course.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2012-11-14 09:30:16 Check to see if there are any computer recycling centers that'll sell to individuals. Sometimes you local landfill doubles as a computer recycler, but they won't always let you take/buy stuff.
I also suggest checking Craigslist nation wide (plenty of search engines that'll search the whole of Craigslist.) Some people are willing to ship items if you deal via PayPal.

Posted by: directive0 on 2012-11-14 09:37:52 Man if you NEED a mac, I have one I'm trying to give to soemone I know will appreciate them. If you can get down to Toronto, or know someone who does I can hook you up with an LC 2 that needs a tiny bit of love. It boots I believe but is missing a fan!

Posted by: markyb86 on 2012-11-14 15:13:29 Hey, what happened to the mac in your signature? Maybe it could be fixed?

Posted by: KC13 on 2012-11-15 13:22:55 See my posts in the 68k PowerBook thread for info on my PB180. It may be fixable, but I have no resources at the moment.
@ Concorde1993 It isn't a priority, but I miss having a working Mac.

Posted by: Bunsen on 2012-11-17 12:41:09 Ottawa is a reasonably large city, yeah? I put out a politely worded request on my local freecycle mailing list, emphasising that I was a hobbyist/collector, not a trader, and made out like a bandit. Worth a try perhaps.

Posted by: KC13 on 2012-11-19 08:46:16 I put a message on my local user group site and received a Digital Audio G4 on Saturday past. I need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, system software and a hard drive bracket to get it good to go, but will get there soon. My old PC monitor, keyboard and mouse seem to work, so a hard drive bracket and system software is likely all I need.
Ottawa is a reasonably large city, but for some reason they no longer seem to give away things. Back in the 90's, I used to take in everything and anything, repair it and donate it to families that couldn't afford computers. Now that I'm in the same boat, it seems to have sailed, lololol. I lived in a house back in those days, but now I rent a room so no room for doing things like that currently.
