| Acquired from guy in McMinnville |
Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-10 19:21:32 So craigslist paid off today. A nice older gentleman put his collection up for a huge sum hoping to find the right individual to "inherit" his collection. He has pulmonary hypertension. So I take the two hour drive from my house to his (one way) and find this gear to all be working. A boxed color classic, IIe with drives, II, IIvx, (2) 630cds, macintosh plus (only says plus on back with external floppy hard drive) in bag, 9600(300), 8500(132), 7300(200), lc575, performa 400, lc3, paint 2.0 in a paint can (never seen it before and it made me laugh), couple of external floppy drives with one keyboard, one mouse and one monitor.
Such a nice guy, and he doesn't have long to live. I am ecstatic to take of his care of his macs.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2012-11-10 19:59:36 Great conquest! That's awesome, I hope this helps to put his mind at ease, sounds like a classy guy.
Me, I'm having everything I own and my bag-0-bones dumped into a quarter scale Viking Ship. This is to be launched into an undisclosed body of water for my younger brothers, son and nephews to set ablaze with fire arrows. It may be environmentally irresponsible, but the flames, clay mortars and star shells will certainly make a dramatic backdrop for them as they quaff horns of mead, ale and margaritas while devouring grilled gobbets of meat at my sendoff party! Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-11 05:05:33 That's a great idea, wish I had siblings.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2012-11-11 10:03:34 I mentioned this to a guy at work and he suggested adding parachute flares into the mix as well. [😉] ]'>

Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-11 16:11:52 I don't have the heart to tell him all the capacitors leaked. After taking a quick look and quickly trying to boot them all only the power macs work. Guess I better buy a lot of capacitors and get to learning how to solder.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2012-11-12 13:03:13 I contacted that guy a couple of weeks ago and he said he wouldn't take less than $600. What's your magic?
|
Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-12 14:58:24 Well we had things in common and I played on that. I'm diabetic and have hypertension and he's dying from pulmonary hypertension.

Posted by: Byrd on 2012-11-12 21:58:07 So perhaps we should all take along a blood pressure monitor to all future conquests? Poor bugger, not a nice way to go.

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2012-11-13 18:31:08 Best wishes to this guy.
The Plus that only says Plus on the back is an upgraded 128K/512K. I'd love to see a picture of Paint in a paint can!!!
When I die, I'd like for my Macs to be auctioned off on here (provided 68KMLA is still around when the time comes) and the proceeds can go to ComputeReach of Pittsburgh (provided that's still around). Yes, I no longer live there, but it's my favorite charitable organization. The lone exception is my tangerine iBook, which I'll likely be buried with.
(Yes, I wrote a will when I was 25 just in case).

Posted by: uniserver on 2012-11-13 22:39:01 did ya show up, turn your pockets inside out, and give him the puppy dog eyes ?
|
Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-14 00:06:54 I paid some of what he asked but it was "for a song" in comparison.
|
Posted by: uniserver on 2012-11-14 00:32:34 well what was all that worth to ya?
|
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2012-11-14 07:17:42 It's priceless, discussing the filthy lucre involved will only spoil the touching story.
|
Posted by: Macdrone on 2012-11-14 09:18:54 They are priceless now, and hopefully will give me the drive to start learning how to recap boards and fix the II's.
