Posted by: uniserver on 2012-10-29 00:43:44 do you think a T8700 would work?
i just opened this thing up and its shocking how easy access is the cpu is.
Here is exact specs of this iMac,

Posted by: Byrd on 2012-10-29 03:21:22 T8700 isn't pin compatible, the best CPU for this would be a T7600 (2.3Ghz Core2Duo)
http://ark.intel.com/products/27257/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T7600-4M-Cache-2_33-GHz-667-MHz-FSB
... as you'll discover they are expensive, I'm using a T7400 (2.16Ghz) in mine which cost considerably less, and a T7200 is a decent upgrade too (2.0Ghz, more cache, is capable of 1080p movie playback).

Posted by: uniserver on 2012-10-29 08:57:51 HEY! thanks for the info, i really appreciate it!
I found a T7500...
http://www.microcenter.com/product/380254/22GHz_Socket_478_Core_2_Duo_Processor_-_Refurbished#tab-specs
this one seems like a good price!
24 bucks sounds good!
it should work correct? i know my my current cpu has a FSB of 667
this new one is 800, i wonder if i pop this cpu in if the FSB will go up to 800 mhz?
i doubt it though because i'm pretty sure the FSB is set by the north bridge on these older machines.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2012-10-29 09:06:02 I'm fairly certain that a T7500 will not work. You need a T7200 (1.83 GHz), T7400 (2.16 GHz) or a T7600 (2.3 GHz). They all run a 667 MHz bus speed. I don't think the 800 MHz processors will scale down to 667 MHz.

Posted by: uniserver on 2012-10-29 12:52:24 I'm buying a 8X +DL SuperDrive and a T7400 from mcdermd.
He's the man with the stuff!!! 🙂
This thread will help lots inquiring on the internet.
because you need at-least a C2D for Lion, I am sure many with older hardware will be doing searches trying to figure out how to upgrade the cpu
in the Macbook, Mac Mini, Macbook Pro, iMac
i just installed lion last night, it does seem to run much smoother then snow leopard,
even with Intel GMA 950 graphics!
