OS 9 updates?
Posted by: G4foreva on 2012-10-15 20:56:32
Hi all,

So on my Lombard I currently have 9.0 installed, and I at least want it to get to 9.1, if not 9.2. I've tried the updates from the Apple website but it seems that they no longer support legacy software updates? The website is there but whenever I try to download the software I get taken to the main support page.

Is there any other way of getting these updates besides going through the Apple website, or shelling out for the commercial releases? I am so new to this that I'm just kind of floundering getting my powerbook set up how I want it. I bought an orinoco gold card and it's recognized by my computer, but I have no idea how to get it to work. Do I need the upgrade to 9.1 or 9.2 to do this, or is there airport support in 9.0? I'm so confused and I've looked at multiple resources but I'm just getting even more confused! :disapprove:

Apple does still offer the 9.1 update for download, but not through Software Update (there was a recent thread about this); you have to go search their archives and I don't have the URL handy, sorry. 🙁

To get to 9.2.1 or 9.2.2 (both of which are free) you need to be running 9.2, which means a CD. The OS 9 CD distributed with the last OS 9 eMac G4 will boot any Power Mac capable of booting OS 9, and has 9.2.2, so that's the way I'd go. They turn up on eBay now and then.

The ORiNOCO card requires separate drivers.

Bookmark it... That's where you need to go for the 9.0-9.2.2 upgrade stuff.

That gets you up to 8.6, but not 9.x. However, this mirror still appears to work (downloads not tested, but the folders appear good):

I sit corrected. The Macintosh Garden site did seem to have the updates listed on it, the last time I was there.

edit: maybe not.

To the op: if you're in the states (didn't check), and if I still have the installers, I can burn them to a CD and mail it to you.

Found something. The old download.info.apple.com server is still up.

You can get 9.1, 9.2.1, and 9.2.2 through this link.

Does not work. At Least for me, when i click on it, it takes me to an export page. Then loops back to the Apple main download page.

It works until you actually want to download something. Apple no longer has these updates. Just broken links.
