| 68k Wars: The Quadra 900 Menace |
Posted by: OlaHughson on 2012-10-07 16:46:14 Hello!
I just got a Macintosh Quadra 900 today. I planned to install A/UX on it, but that's another thing, first I wanted to have at least MacOS.
It got two hard drives: the Quantum ProDrive ELS, and Seagate ST51090N, neither of which seem it boots from.
I made the A/UX boot floppy, and it was like "OMG SYSTEM FOLDER IS BROKEN".
I decided to start from scratch and install System 7.0.1. I made the diskettes on the beige G3, and connected the Quadra anew, to get no video.
Neither with all RAM nor with just bank A filled, i checked all 4 sets.
It happens to have the SuperMac Spectrum Power 1152 NuBus video card; i tried using the built-in video instead - still, nothing.
Right now, it has the FDD plugged in, and no HDD; only one bank is filled. I am fed up for this moment (it's almost 2am as I write this), so I will just clean up this mess. I hope someone has any idea what to do.
It worked, with the hard drives plugged in, it either did show the "searching for system" diskette, or the X one.

Second, I don't think 7.0.1 will even work on the 900 without an enabler. Have you tried using something out of the 7.5.3 disk set?

Posted by: Byrd on 2012-10-08 03:42:46 Do you get a chime, and what monitor are you testing it with (and adapter, perhaps)? Double check the RAM config too, I recall it was tricky/confusing to configure in the correct manner as well.

edit: it seems to be memory error - tried reseating SIMMs, it still occurs.
2. Sun/Sony 20" CRT / automatic (no dip switches) adapter, 640x480 - 1280x1024; worked with IIci, too.

Posted by: beachycove on 2012-10-08 07:00:59 That is consistent with a memory error.

Posted by: OlaHughson on 2012-10-08 07:44:07 EDIT: Works now, now let's make the installer see the hard drive..

Either with original ribon, or with another ribbon, external terminator or terminator in drive, ioriginal hd setup app or patched one, cannot see it -.-
That's the drive.

Internal SCSI buses are terminated on the MoBo, of this particular Mac, termination on internal device chains would be a no-no. 😉

Posted by: OlaHughson on 2012-10-09 15:52:02 I finally got it working - with the aid of an external hard drive.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2012-10-12 12:03:00 At least put Derpy Hooves on that desktop.

At least put Derpy Hooves on that desktop. Nope.mkv
You see, I name all Apple computers (except that G4), with names of ponies that belong to the Apple Family. And wallpapers have to go along with it. Derpy is not from Apple Family.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2012-12-05 10:36:40 I'm pretty sure Derpy was the name of the Performa line. 😱)
