I bought 2 PowerBooks today with a lot of accessories for $30. The models were 5300c and 165. The seller was nice enough to let me go to his house and test out the computers before I bought them. The first one I tried was the 5300c. I plugged in the cable, and I heard the speaker "pop' like my 5300cs. Good sign. Hit the power key. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No chime, no image, no fan, no hard drive. No noise came from the computer. I tried pressing the reset button, nothing. The computer just wouldn't do anything. Is there anything I can check before I put this in the pile to be cannibalized for my 5300cs?
