Flashing SiL3112 with WiebeTech FW
Posted by: max1zzz on 2012-09-03 14:46:14
Hey, i just got my sil3112 and have been trying to flash the WiebeTech fw to it. but i can't find a program witch will flash it to the card. my G4 (2001 QS) won't boot with it in (i assume it doesn't like the pc firmware?) so i can't use the WiebeTech program, the windows program won't see the card and the dos program sees the card, but prompts "the firmware is for motherboards" or something like that. So dose anyone have a idea on how to flash it to the card?

Actually, you should be able to install the card in the QS, boot from another drive, and then flash the card with the Weibe utility. That's what I did on my MDD.

That happens under some conditions. some cards do not work in certain DA/QS machines apparently. I had a QS2002 that would not boot with the same card that worked in my DA. I *think* I had another Sil3512 that the QS did boot with or something(I might not be remembering correctly) but the card seemed to not be flashable even using a DOS based flasher.

Basically, if you have an incompatibility you would know before you flash the card because this thing happens regardless of firmware. As for the root cause I do not actually know if it is Apple or Silicon Image that is the true offender.(but I want to blame Apple, because Apple.) And I do not know of another fix other than either finding a different card or a different computer.

so then it probably isn't going to work... wonder if i should just swap ram & the sonnet cpu upgrade from the QS to the Sawtooth

Anyone tried one of these cards in a xserve g4? just thinking I might give it a shot as my qs doesn't like it

also, anyone know a cheap 4 port sata card that will work in my xserve? eSata or sata is fine (thinking of having it as a alternative to getting a usb2 card for the server)
