Snagged a new SCSI Disk Mode Cable . . .

. . . it's just off the 'Bay, but I'm happy to have sourced it. The one from back in the brand new PB100 day has seen better days.

HDI30 to 50 Pin SCSI Cable for Vintage Macintosh Laptop Computers

Thank goodness the auction description was in error! [😀] ]'>

I'm happy as a clam with my new to me SCSI Disk Mode Cable. I just need to transfer one bale to it and it'll be perfect! It's now happily transferring the contents of a Duo's HDD to my P6360's HDD.

The insidious, never corrected, strain amplification of the cable of the Pro Mouse aside, it looks as if Apple (or somebody else?) learned a thing or two about cables, stiffness, strain relief, and the length requirements for such a cable. My original is WAY too short, hence, the strain relief proved inadequate and wires can be seen when it's bent at certain angles. I'll have to post a comparison piccie of the two. One was brand new from Apple back when the BabyPB still had that new computer smell . . .

. . . this one is an infinitely better design. :approve:

It was only on the weekend I discovered SCSI disk mode - was fixing up a PB540 for sale, and plugged in a random powerbook SCSI --> 50pin SCSI adapter. Saw it had a little switch on it, powered down, tried that ... PB now in SCSI disk mode! Made installing the OS so much quicker from my Colour Classic.

Sweet discovery! :approve:

SCSI Disk Mode ROCKED on BabyPB. Somehow . . . unbeknownst to me . . . :🙂 . . . the entire Adobe Font Library found its way onto the HDD of that little beauty in incremental transfers to its upgraded 340MB HDD. Actually, it wasn't even illegal when it happened, for a period of something like nine months, the copyright office denied all protection to digitized Fonts as they always had for every other form of TypeFace for printing. You can't copyright the AlphaBet and you can't tie the buyers of your printing press to purchasing only your own TypeFace selections, or so the precedents went.

But that's another story . . . }🙂

I really do prefer the cables over adapters, of which I have several. The locking mechanism on the cables put them head and shoulders above the friction-fit connections of every adapter in my inventory.

It's good to have an OS Installed for Any Macintosh on a PB or Duo for troubleshooting any other compatible Mac, PB or Duo in the inventory. [😉] ]'>
