System 2 disk images, writing to floppy
Posted by: ctludlow on 2012-08-29 09:47:41
Can someone help me understand what DiskCopy 4.2 is actually doing in my scenario?

I have downloaded the System 2, MacPaint and MacWrite images from this site to my Mac SE with 6.0.8: http://www.earlymacintosh.org/disk_images.html

In DiskCopy 4.2, when clicking the "Load Image File" button it sees the MacPaint and MacWrite images and displays them in the list to select. I can write these to floppy perfectly. However, DiskCopy does not display the System 2 image in the list so I can't even select it write to floppy. Any ideas?

It may be a Disk Copy 6 image file.

Or it may be missing it's resource fork. If so, you can try repairing it by copying the information from one of the other images in resedit.

Could be missing type/creator info.

Try opening it in DC 6.3.3. If you can mount it, you can then extract the contents and dump them into a new image file or directly onto a disk. The Guide in my signature has more info on doing this sort of thing.

EDIT: Checks fine on my end. DC 4.2 reads it with tag checksum $1A5A5D37, data checksum $D2F81640. 400K disk.

EDIT 2: The problem must be on the machine downloading the disk or the transfer method.

Probably a wrong type/creator (had this before). Copy the codes across from the other images using ResEdit.
