Mac SE No video
Posted by: RCW on 2015-09-03 20:02:52
I bought a Mac SE on Ebay, but when it arrived the box looked very bad it has no video. 🙁

The display makes a crackling sound specifically the little tube behind the deflection yoke (That tube is also sparking inside), but the machine still gets the boot tone and starts accessing the hard drive.

I had noticed the small board connected to the back of the CRT appeared to be party not pressed down onto the pins.

- I pressed it back into place gently and tried it again.

- The screen still has no video, but makes the hairs raise on your arm now so I know it's getting charged.

- It is also now rebooting continuously due to the boot chime playing repeatedly every few seconds.

I really want to make this thing work. I wanted one since I was a kid.

Do I need to replace the CRT? I have a working crt from a mac plus.

Can anyone tell me what may be wrong here?

Thanks!,

Thomas

It does sorta sound like the CRT is bad, but it could also be an analog board problem.

crackling sound = not good and usually will kill something if something isnt already blown. If the neck was shooting lightning bolts, or glows blue, the CRT was broken in shipping.
