Macintosh 128k Sad Mac Error Code: 040008

I have a Macintosh 128k and it gets a Sad Mac error code:  040008

http://www.mac512.com/macwebpages/sadmac.htm

So, I think it's bad memory perhaps?

04XXXX = Memory test - Mod3 test  Memory chip failure- See Single Chip ID below

Bit  Loc  Sub Code

10   G7   0400

Sub Code:

YY0008 Trace

So Memory test failed, but I'm not sure what the Trace means.  Perhaps I just need to replace the RAM chip?  Guess it wouldn't hurt.

yup

but a more permanent fix is just to replace all the ram, its big job, but a proper fix.  More chips are going to go bad as time passed if you don't change them all.

What's the main reason for the RAM to go bad?  Just use?  Electrical wear and tare?

I think I have a 512k board I can raid for RAM chips.

just was bad ram from the get go,  some have said silicon contamination.    mostly its the Apple logo'd micron ram.

Jameco has ram chips. There is a link somewhere on the forum. I might have some left over from my two 512k's.

PM me Doug, and I'll see if I have enough on hand.
