DECdigitalSTATION6500™

Here's a top view of the largest part gleaned from the 6500 carcass . . .

. . . here's the back view of the Sub and the extra room for mounting the Internal Video-Out Card . . .
. . . I may not be bothering with the TV-Tuner Box. [😉] ]'>
There's a nice VGA Card in there now, but I've got a few killer ones to pick from. This will be a 1080p PictureFrameServer. I need to keep a nice heavy computer underneath the left end of my 32" 720p Flat Panel so it doesn't get knocked off the shelf on the TelCo Rack!

. . . Side view of the Sub, to be shock mounted to a plate bolted up to the fore-to-aft brace to which it's clamped.
The Purple Card is the unobtanium Tempo TRIO from Sonnet . . .
. . . Firewire, USB & two channels of IDE/ATAPI all on one PCI Card! [😀] ]'>

The guts: Box w/Power/Reset Buttons, IR Receiver and Headphone Jack to be . . .

. . . mounted behind the (soon to be hinged) access door cut from the side panel of the front bezel . . .
. . . or pull the box apart and mount the IR eye, buttons wherever appropriate in the bezel. [}🙂] ]'>

The original PSU fits and works for now, but I'll be doing an ATX hack to free up some elbow room . . .
. . . and provide some additional oomph for extra drives, a card reader and modern I/O panel . . .

. . . hidden behind the swingin' door.
This is one of my favorites of all the cases I've collected over the years. I like that it's upside down compared to almost any other Mini-Tower. Originally, it was to be a SCSI peripheral expansion box, I've got a nice set of wheels on an adjustable clamp for it to be moved from 68k to PPC etc. the 630/6360/6500 series is my favorite for hacking, so I'm glad it all worked out this way. I've got the color matched Digital Equipment Corp. Keyboard for this rig and a USB converter with its name on it. The Mouse will undoubtedly be a wireless USB micro-dongle affair, gotta love 'em!
It's kind of fitting that this one ends up a computer, while the other re-case hack with the MacBook Top/Sides failed to make the grade as a CPU. Now I can use it as an expansion chassis for this heavy mutha!
Everything about these two hacks has been topsy-turvy! :🙂
Neither hack is finished, one's a hit and the other's a miss, but at least this one is up and running as is! :approve:

| Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2012-07-05 18:55:38 A couple of the comrades said they couldn't see the images in my other recent hack post and one pointed out that the links were broken in this thread as well.
I've reposted the attachments and linked directly to them now, but I've also left the original links fro bug-hunting.
Can anyone NOT see the Pics?
Can anyone see BOTH pictures in each link pair, one atop the other?
For most, it should say "picture" above each pic, these being the original indirect links, which were broken, other than for myself and probably for the other mods, or so the theory goes.
TIA, gang.
| Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2012-07-06 10:29:06 I just checked and I see "image" above the pic at work.
edit: I think I re-borked the images. Gotta fix it later.
