| Power Macintosh 8600, power supply issues |
Posted by: uniserver on 2012-05-14 12:09:55 wikipedia said these were plagued with power supply issues,
i happen to have one, that came from that load of mac's i received over the weekend.
this one happens to have the Internal SCSI Zip drive, witch i have never seen before!
i plug it in, hit the power button and nothing.
does anyone know what the common fault is, in the PSU?
maybe i can take it apart and fix it?

Posted by: techknight on 2012-05-23 18:22:02 might want to check the MOSFETs before sticking another fuse in there. Otherwise, you might watch it blow again 🙂

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2012-05-23 19:39:00 Never heard about power supply issues on the 8600, the 9600 also uses the same model. I have 1 x 8600 and 2 x 9600 machines and they seem to hold up ok, I only have one spare PS they are hard to come by.

Posted by: beachycove on 2012-05-23 20:36:32 It was long ago, but i seem to recall that the fuse blew when i mistakenly turned the machine on with no drives connected.
It seemed odd, which is why i remember it. The machine in question was easily fixed and is still going strong.
