Classic and Ram

Posted by: bibilit on 2012-05-12 09:45:55 Just scored today a very nice looking Classic, not too yellow,in working condition (there is no HD but was part of the deal) and free ! 🙂 Boot to the blinking mark, so at least i know that the logic board is ok and screen side is fine as well. Nice addition, the compact is supplied with one of those anti-theft ring (never get one of those) I also collected a set of 2 x Sdram 512 mo PC 100...those are unfortunately ECC and probably won't fit any Powermac G4. I also get the perfect tool (not free this time) for any Compact : Was used immediately to get the Classic opened, i cleaned the floppy drive and removed the battery (was dead but hasn't leaked at all...was not a Maxell one) The Classic is only supplied with on board Ram, no additional ram board is supplied...doesn't matter i have got something in mind for this Classic.

Posted by: Cosmo on 2012-05-12 11:22:11 Nice score, clean, working units are always nice finds! Strage it doesn't have the ram board. All Classics i have come across ever, have had the ram board. I think i have extra ram board with ram inserted if you're interested, PM me.

Already have a Classic with the ram board, so won't probably need another one right now, but thanks anyway. Strange it doesn't have the ram board. The Classic was sold as a Low-end Compact with only 1 Mb of memory and no HD (and was sold for $ 999) while the $1,499 model featured the memory expansion card and 40 SC hard disk...don't know if this is the Low-end model or if both the expansion card and HD were removed before handling it to me. Anyway, i can't complain. 🙂

Some weeks ago i found a broken Classic II : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18135 it was a mess... but managed to remove all that can be saved, except for the casing and screen. I cleaned the board, tested the HD and stored everything in a closet. Then i collected a Classic,minus HD but in working order...so the easy upgrade was to swap boards and use the working HD: The only modification required was a small hole in the rear casing. I already have a Classic anyway, and will keep the Logic board as a spare, now i have a Classic II...well sort of, as the casing is still showing the Classic label.
