Looking for MIDI and Joystick/game port cards for PCI macs
Posted by: mltv on 2012-02-21 21:50:35
Hi, I have a 9600 that I want to use again. I want to be able to play some old games and basically relive the 90's with it. I am wondering if there are any joystick/gameport cards that I can use with it? And, any MIDI cards as well? I am not looking for anything that requires USB. I have been having a difficult time trying to search on google, so I am asking for help here. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Hi,

Regarding the joystick, I don't know of any cards that let you use a PC-like joystick, however have a look around for a MacAlly ADB joystick or keyboard. And yes, if you have a USB card and run USB Overdrive, any generic USB gamepad/joystick works pretty well.

MIDI on pre-USB Macs was connected via the Localtalk serial (printer/modem) ports; converters are cheap and readily available on ebay. AFAIK, there was no PCI card made for Macs like you describe.

Gravis made joysticks that connected over ADB.
