PCMCIA Bluetooth

Did anyone ever get around to making a support package for PCMCIA bluetooth cards like the Zoom 4312 or Motorola BTPCM100? It would be totally awesome if I could do a data tether to my phone or have a wireless NCU connection.

Well, WiFi is working on Newton - if your phone can create a WiFi hot spot, that'll share your connection.

I already have the Orinoco support working but wi-fi hotspot on my phone kills the battery from a day and a half to four hours. The wireless card also makes my newton too bulky to fit in my pocket.

Bluetooth uses pretty much no power and the earlier revision cards seem to be very cheap these days. Even one megabit is plenty for a Newton.

Have you looked at this page yet? http://systemfolder.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/newton-bluetooth-connection/

Hmm, well it assumes you are using linux (but thankfully pairing is not rocket science) and of course both my Zoom and Motorola cards are not listed by him but he's got the general idea on what the idea would be.

That has the BT pkgs.

I don't remember what cards it supports. I have a Pico card I've used on occasion.

Right now I'm trying to get an eMate to work as the serial access terminal foe all My network devices.

Blunt 2? I didn't see that last time.

Well it appears that while my card is behaving with the Newton, it's not behaving with Blunt at all and just hangs the newton. :/
