Avid Nubus card sorting
Posted by: CelGen on 2011-12-27 12:50:15
I was searching for my Apple II workstation card and found my small stack of Avid NuBus cards. I thought it would be nice to pair the cards together while I ahd the moment.

There the NuVista + Base 2.0 card with a 2500-4708-00 board plugged in on the end (it's covered in memory and 8 PLCC chips) and then there is a 2500-4706-01 JPEG processor card which has a little ribbon cable that plugs into the expansion board on the NuVista.

However I have another card model 2500-4702-02 which google says is ALSO a JPEG processor card and has two connectors for the ribbon cable. I'm not sure if it goes with another kit or the ribbon cable left the NuVista, went to this card, then went to the other JPEG processor card via another small ribbon cable.

I also have another card that has Truevision silkscreening but Avid part number 2500-4721-00 on it alsong with the same size ribbon cable hanging off it.

You have cards from 2 different setups from the sound of it.

The nuvista card has a cable going to a DSP card and the Truevision (Targa 2000 called ABVB by AVID) had a much taller DSP card that went with it.

How much taller?

I know I have another card somewhere that's super freaking tall. It won't even fit in my Quadra 950, let alone a Macintosh II system but it's buried with another box of NuBus cards somewhere in my crawlspace.

The taller card has one 72 pin SIMM slot.

Right.

That card is buried deep in my crawlspace.

Well, this is good to know regardless. :-/

Had to go into the crawlspace and found the cards. Here's how they now stand:

There's two NuVista + JPEG compression sets, there's the Truevision with the massive-ass card it connects to and then I found ANOTHER Truevision, plus that one card I still have not paired up yet with anything (upper left with the 9 large ASIC's and 10 small ones).

If there's one good thing, I know at least I have all the break-out cables for these cards.

Nice collection, think I have those all (not 100% sure of the card with the Harris Semiconductor chips). I think the large card had an optional add-on that would connect to an external Pizza Box AVID 3D generator (have one of those).

Just hijacking the thread a tiny bit..

Unknown_K, any chance you have Avid AMP in your collection? I need some info on how to correctly connect NuBus expander board to 8100 logic board.

Thanks

No I don't. Maconthemove from this forum posted about having an AMP back in 2009.

Here is some setup info:
