| Some days you have the oddest luck |
Posted by: jruschme on 2011-11-29 21:40:04 So, I recently traded my spare Pismo to BGoins12 for an MDD without a power supply. Over the weekend, I put a post on the LEM swap list looking for one. Disappointed with a lack of responses, I decided to hit up ebay for a power supply.
Two hours after buying one on ebay, I get an email offering me one of the pre-exchange MDD power supplies (the noisy ones) free for the cost of shipping.
Needless to say, I am taking it... but definately have to wonder about my timing. 🙂

Posted by: BGoins12 on 2011-11-30 06:19:19 Nice... like I had mentioned, just avoid the Samsung 360w and the ACBel 360w.... the 400W is loud, but is far more robust. My MDD has a 400W ACBel dated 3-2004, and it shows no signs of dying. I heard that the ACBel 360w lasts longer than the Samsung, but I'm not sure. All I know is that the Samsung ones in general were epic fails.

Posted by: protocol7 on 2011-11-30 06:34:47 Good luck indeed. I have a dead MDD lying here for ages awaiting a PSU transplant. I just haven't came across any suitable donor machines or PSUs.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2011-11-30 15:17:22 Seems like MDD have had PS issues forever, one of the reasons I never bothered to buy one (they are offered cheap on LEMswap once in a while from a guy in Michigan).
Having a spare PS would be the smart thing to do if the ebay one fails (they don't seem to take out the motherboard when they fail do they?).

Not in my experience. When my MDD PS died, I just replaced it and back to business.
