| Problem with apple 24 scsi cd drive |
Posted by: Dimitris1980 on 2011-11-13 10:32:33 I have a problem with my cd rom drive the last days. Most of the times tries to read a cd with no success. Even when i try to eject (the cd) it appears a msg like that: The disk "x" could not be put away, because a disk error occurred. My mac is a performa 6116 with 136 mb ram, sonnet nubus g3 at 500 Mhz installed, mac os 7.6 and mac os 8.1. Thank you

Posted by: Bunsen on 2011-11-13 11:13:23 New is fine. I get mine from a $2 store 🙂 It is just a CD with a small brush glued to it, and a bottle of fluid.
You could also try a photographic lens brush if you have one, or a very clean, soft, fine hair paintbrush - if you can see the lens mechanism when the drive is open.

Posted by: protocol7 on 2011-11-13 11:38:30 I tried one of those cleaning kits when I needed to clean the drive in my 7500. It was useless. Not sure if it was the brush on the CD or the liquid (whatever it was, it wasn't IPA) but it had no effect. In the end I opened the drive up and cleaned the lens directly with a cotton bud (q-tip) and some isopropyl alcohol and it's worked fine since.

Posted by: Dimitris1980 on 2011-11-16 10:46:19 Well i tried a cd cleaner (with the brush) and the following msg appeared:
The Apple CD-ROM drive is not
responding.
Please be sure that at least one
Apple CD-ROM drive is connected
and turned on, then restart your
Macintosh.
