| Clamshell |
Posted by: bibilit on 2011-10-30 13:48:53 Today i just get a "new" Clamshell.
could not resist to pay 20 € (28 $) for a Blueberry Clamshell.
A more or less complete unit (a key from the keyboard and the smaller part of the top apple logo are missing) but the original "Yoyo" charger is present.
Mac os 9 was reluctant to start (but the battery was flaky) and everything seems to be working properly (no airport card is present)

Posted by: ClassicHasClass on 2011-10-30 20:53:58 I got a blueberryBook myself, mostly because it was the "first" (but I bought a Rev.B, so it's not really *the* first). They are cheerful things, and I found a replacement battery for it and maxxed out the RAM. It came with the Airport card. I use it as my token WaMCom machine to test for Classilla regressions.

I found a local seller with a Tangerine Unit for $20 without the PSU. Great little units! This unit gets a little use by my 3 year old with a few games here and there.
I put an airport card in it, but never bothered with replacing the dead battery or upgrading the RAM from the 96MB it came with.

I confess that I'd love to have a clamshell to play with (particularly a Tangerine one), but every time I see one, the price is comparable to that of a decent Pismo.

Posted by: ClassicHasClass on 2011-10-31 06:16:19 It must the colour that makes them valuable. Spec-wise, a Pismo would eat a clamshell's lunch and then take its lunch money for the next day. But they are much cuter than a Pismo, even considering how stylish a Pismo is.

Posted by: bibilit on 2011-10-31 08:56:03 Indeed, this is my fourth clam.
the first was Tangerine but the logic board was damaged, and never worked properly.
the second one (blueberry) only suffered from a bad hard disk and was repaired easily.
The third is indigo, bought mainly for spares, had been badly overclocked by a previous owner...after locating the problem the clam is now working properly at 400 Mhz

I don't know what to do with the last one, maybe trying to swap boards with the tangerine one, to get a different shade. :beige:

I've got a Tangerine one in my eBay watch list at the moment (300mhz, 576mb RAM, 40gb disk, working battery). Admittedly, it is a very maxed out system, but it is over $200 with almost a full day left in the auction. At that price, you're out of Pismo range and through a good chunk of the PowerBook g4 range. (Heck, you could probably touch an early Intel Mini for that much money.)

Posted by: Hrududu on 2011-11-13 19:55:45 Clamshell iBooks are crazy little things. Zany design, terrible performance, fun to own. My first was purchased in 2003 for $350 which was a 366MHz indigo. Thing cost me a fortune as a few months later the logicboard died and it needed RAM and a battery. As I recall, the who fiasco ended up costing me around a grand once all was said and done. The next two were 300MHz blueberry and 366MHz graphite SE. Picked them both up for $60 January 2010. Lastly, I got a 2nd 300MHz blueberry for free... So ya, I've come full circle on iBooks.
